well i guess I'm a newbie and just learning to play but i play anything to the flop.
i fold ace rag quite often when the blinds get bigger just so i can wait on a better hand. seems like its often in this scenario that i get ace rag several times while waiting on a better hand and once i get it i wind up geting sucked out on.but i guess thats poker never know what the turn and river will be.its happened i fold ace rag several times just to catch kk or ak- aq just to get beat by ace rag.no matter what the odds are the cards dont keep track of them.ace rag ?
im in from now on newbee or not

IMO, If u never play Ace-rag I think you lost many of value.
A-rag will give you a profit if you play it right time.

Let say you in Small Blind with A7o and it folded to the button who are
LAG and steal blind many time in button position some time I will re-raise him maybe 2.5-3 times of amount he raise if I holding A-rag but have read on him that he just steal blind with any 2 card.

you are in the cutoff with any one folded to you and you have read on the player who are in the BB is very tight and play only premium hand or He is a guy who multiabling and play only hand that he list then you raise here and got profit ... if he call .. at least you have position, you have Ace againt K10 KJ KQ QJ Q10 J10 and you have 35% change to hit ace if he have pockets pairs higher than your ace kicker.

A-rag is worth to steal blind in late tournament too because if villian call out of position .. you have position and some value hand to play too.

For the hand that u got out kick you can play it better by play small pot or fold if u think u beated.

Ace-rag is dangerous, but aces are strong and can take down KK or QQ when an Ace shows up on the flop- which seems to happen a lot when I hold KK! That's why so many people play them. Plus if it is a low rag there is always the wheel possibility... And suited Ace rag is hard to lay down.

I agree that Ace - rag is a dangerous hand, but think about this. The hand you're worried about is A with better kicker. If you look at the math, lets say A7 against AK everyone else folds. AK wins around 70+ %. Now, this is based on, for the most part, chances of a 7 hitting with no K out of 48 remaining cards. Problem is, there aren't 48 cards left, if at a 10 player table there is only 32. (I know this is a stretch, but I'm trying to play devil's advocate) Now assume you have good reason to believe the K's have been folded, say a lot limpers who like to limp in with face cards, followed by the raise, you call with A7, everyone else folds. Like I said, I know this is a stretch, but now the odds of hitting a 7 with 32 cards remaining with no K's is a little better. The AK will only have around a 60 - 40 advantage. And if the A and 7 come up, you can usually win big. Just a thought, I know you still shouldn't play it and I never do (maybe once in awhile, LOL).

The problem with this logic is that it is also likely that players have folded 7's so the odds don't really change.

Yes, I said it was a stretch. Though, maybe if there were a lot of limpers and you were in late pos. you could assume there was a better chance that the limpers had a K as opposed to a 7. Prob not really a useful thought, but I thought I'd bring it up,so when our AK gets beat by A rag it not always as long a shot as it seems.

Ace-rag is a "situational type of hand"....or as they say it....depends. There are spots where you can win small pots with it or win large pots if you hit the flop PERFECTLY. The more you have to pay to play this low winning percentage hand, the more risk your taking. So if the blinds are low and my stack is above average and in late position etc... etc..... I'll gamble with ace-rag but the "conditions" have to be perfect.

Fold ace rag and even low pairs if too many people are in the pot. Especially when faced with a pre-flop raise. Of course you could be a donk and call a 5 way all-in with 22. Your choice.
