History of the organization my nick pays tribute to:

The Ohio State University Marching Band is one of the few all-brass and percussion bands in the country, perhaps the largest of its type in the world. However, Ohio State's band had humble beginnings. The first instrumental musical organization on campus was a 12-piece fife and drum corps organized in 1878.

I thought it was only fitting to give the real tbdbitl props before I begin with my own History.

My Poker Playing Begins
It all started for me in the fall of 2004. I started playing play chips on Party Poker. A co-worker said to me one day, hey if you want to really play you should play at Ultimate Bet. So, I started an account there and played the play chips constantly. When I saw my Ultimate points growing every month, I thought, hey there should be a way to get cash from these guys without depositing. I started playing every freeroll they had. I was finishing in the money (Bonus Dollars) with ease. I had qualified for numerous TEC Sunday tourneys, but it seemed every time I couldn't even get a hand that added up to more than 10 in these.

In March of 2005, I was looking at my account screen and noticed that there was $1.00 of real money in my account. I thought, where'd the hell did that come from. Wouldn't you know, my co-worker had transferred me a buck. This guy actually was thinking, if he could get me hooked on the real tables and I lost the buck, I'd deposit and give him as a referring member and receive Bonus dollars from my deposit.

The penny table journey begins! Not having even enough to enter a $1.00 + .10 SnG, I started sitting at the .01/.02 NL tables with the least amount of money I could. It didn't take too long and I was up to $10. I then played SnGs. But with me, I found that with the time invested in these tourneys, I was actually making more money in the ring games. Another, thing I noticed was all of my Bonus Dollars were gone—converted.

My next thought was that I need more Bonus Dollars. So, I concentrated on the $500 Bonus$ freerolls. I was now, instead of just making the $$$, finishing in the top 50. Eventually, I finally made it to a final table with everyone else having atleast 10x my chip stack. But, everyone one at the table was so intent on getting the big stack's chips, they paid no attention to me. I finished 2nd. I strung together a few more final tables and finally I won one.

I proceeded to build my bankroll. In the fall of 2005, I decided it was time to move up. So, I was off to the .05/.10 tables.

To be continued . . .

Poker Beginnings Continue .....
I now was setting goals for myself.

1. Have enough success to never have to deposit
2. Reach 1K
3. Piss off my co-worker

Well, my next level went well. I was making money and my bonus dollars were converting faster than ever. I shared these goals with my play chip friends. What I found out was that the order of my goals wasn't ordered correctly. Aided by my co-workers poor money management and in turn financial woes, I ended up accomplishing #3 first. One day he comes over to my office with five crumpled dollar bills asking me to transfer him five bucks. I told him, "I never deposited any money. The transfer of real money isn't an option on my cashier screen". He says, "Oh yeah". Then he proceeds to storm out of my office.

Another co-worker asked me when I was going to move up the tables. My response was that I didn't feel comfortable with my bankroll. Eventually, I moved up to the .10/.25 tables, and goal #2 was achieved. When I hit $1,200 I moved up again. I had good success and peaked at $1600 at the end of 2006. But, as I found out, the gains at these tables are HUGE, but so were the losses. My bankroll took a hit. So, I decided to take a break and move down on the tables and straighten my game out. My bankroll is getting better and what I am finding out is goal #1 has been reached also.

I don't enter many $$ tournaments. But, when I do I use my Ultimate Points to enter them. I have cashed in a number of these. So, my first thought of being able to make money from this site without ever depositing was actually possible.

My play is much better. I still have my "Donkey Days", but I think we all have our donk moments. Also, I'm just having fun playing the game and constantly learning to add new wrinkles.

Haha, nice read this was. I like how you achieved #3 first, haha. My friends always ask me to sell them $5 or $10 here n there on Cake, I love it. As for the part where you moved up and then took a hit, well, I'm sure this happens to pretty much anyone who moves up in stakes. Happened to me not too long ago. Taking loses at certain level of play/stakes really does hurt your roll drastically. Not only that, but it definitely puts more stress on you and we all know that being stressful/ having mixed emotions is not good at all when playing poker. I'm just trying to get back to 1k where I was at myself, hopefully it'll turn out good for you as well as me. Take it easy man. Peace:beer:

While I'm not tearing up a Chris Ferguson path. I do enjoy working on all parts of my poker game. I have a lot to learn and I have had fun playing here and hopefully the PFO Sunday League as well as all of the other tournaments will help me with my tournament play.

Thanks for the comment Ron. Hopefully I'll see you at the tables soon.

Seems like the game of choice with the kids now is poker (mom is not thrilled).

My youngest one (9 yr old girl) never ceases to crack me up. Whenever she brings in a bet she declares "pretty colors", grabs one chip of each color and tosses them into the center of the table.

The quote of the week goes something like this:

"It's not 50 / 50. It's us against the morons"

Life is GOOD!

Great story TB! Congrats on your quest! It's that 1$ thing that did it all. Imagine u would have lost it at the table. That guy wouldn't transfer u another one and u probably wouldn't deposit. From 1$ to 1k is something you don't see every day. You are a great MTT player too so I think you should try them out more often! Remember when we played the 5k game, u did a hell of a cash ;)

Yesterday was a really good day of poker for me. Other than my power going out and not being able to play Cake or finish the OFC freeroll and my AA first hand in a Stars Donkeyfest being beat by K Q os, it went decent.

I finished in the OFC freeroll in 22nd out of 1280.

In the PPA Petition freeroll on stars I finished 139th out of 9166.

Hopefully my tournament play is good today and the power stays on!!

Well, at least today I did not lose power. All I did is run out of time and chips. I was raised all-in in my BB. My 9 9 vs K K did not suck out.

I really wanted a FT if I couldn't win it. Unfortunately I came up a little short.

Post subject:  7-13-2009 PokerStars 18:00 $2K Guaranteed

Now Stars is leaving the registration for these donkey fests open for an hour or until they reach a max of 10,000 entrants.

I continued my play from the weekend and ended up finishing 92nd out of 6544.

Unlike some, I like these large field donkeyfests. I guess it goes back to my early days on UltimateBet fighting my way through the All-ins in their Bonus Dollar Tournaments. After a while I mastered the B$ tourneys and was able to hit a number of final tables. And, eventually I won one.

I'm shooting for a top five finish (Just for Illllllllll lol). Who knows maybe I'll get 1st when I do get there!

 Congrats to di4phil as he fought through to the cash in this one and finished 364th.

No, it took some luck to get as far as I did. I was referring to the empty feeling from coming up short.
